Finding the Lexile of a Book

Forestbrook Middle School students receive thier latest Lexile Level through the results of MAP Testing.  They should record this information on page five (5) of their F.M.S. Agenda.

Once you have your child's Lexile measure, you can connect him or her to tens of thousands of books and tens of millions or articles that have Lexile measures. Our district has access to online periodical databases where you can search for these articles by Lexile measure.

The Lexile Book Database contains more than 100,000 English and Spanish fiction and non-fiction titles from more than 450 publishers. Once you know a student’s Lexile measure, you can search the database for books that fall within his or her Lexile range.

You can search the Lexile Book Database using basic search parameters:

  • Title (including partial titles -- e.g., "moon" when looking for "Goodnight Moon")
  • Author (including partial names -- e.g., "rowl" when looking for Rowling)
  • Lexile Range (allows a variance around a reader's Lexile measure)
  • Keywords (searches both the book's title and its description)
  • ISBN (allows you to target a specific title)
