Help my friends in Haiti at The Hands & Feet Project
Mark and his adopted daughter Christela
Dear friends:
My name is Mary E. Massey and I teach at Forestbrook Middle School. I have a favor to ask of your schools, your families, and your communities.
In college, I sang with some friends of mine (Bob Herdman, Mark Stuart, and Will McGinniss) on their first hit single. The band was named Audio Adrenaline. They quickly rose to fame in the Christian music industry. Mark Stuart was the lead singer. His parents and brother David were missionaries in Haiti and the people of Haiti are his friends, family, and his "people".
The wealth that the band gained from their music went to build a few very well constructed buildings in Jacmel, Haiti in 2004 thus began The Hands and Feet Project. The project is a reputable organization that cares and takes in orphaned children. I am pleading with you to consider adopting them as your Haiti Relief Project as a way of helping the Haitian people. With this organization there is no worry that your money or aid will be incorrectly spent, I guarantee their kindness and compassion as they have given away their own fortunes in order to bring the dream of the orphanage into existence.
The Hands and Feet Project did not have structural damage other than some cracked walls, but more than 5,000 buildings around them have collapsed and countless numbers have died. Jacmel is right over the mountainside from Port-au-Prince. The road was completely blocked by the earthquake caving in the mountain and they were without food, water, diapers, formula and medical supplies until just yesterday. Before the first earthquake, they only had 44 orphans, but now they have untold amounts of orphans getting inundated with children who have watched their parents die or their whole families have been lost except one or two of the brothers and sisters. It is so devastating.
Since moments after the first quake, Mark was on CNN and NBC (see video clip) through Skype, as they are fortunate enough to have a generator. He was also quoted in this article and also on MSNBC (see video clip) several times, Fox and other news stations. The Hands and Feet Project was built to help the whole community. They are loved, respected and trusted among the Haitian people and Haiti has become their home. Please read the following information from their website and understand that where this website is usually uplifting and full of peace and hope, it may seem frightening and sad as they have terrible things to share about what is really happening there.
Please discuss these things with your schools, families and communities and see if there is anything you can do for them.
If you want to show an informational/picture and song video to your school in order to introduce the relief fundraiser, I have placed one on my own website: http://www.clickandteachit.com/index.cfm?subpage=1112826, this video features the song Hands and Feet, which was the inspiration for Audio Adrenaline to build the orphanage.
Thank you for anything you might be able to do to help my friends and as I often tell my students, today it is Haiti who needs the help, but tomorrow it may be you or I.
A catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti a few days ago, it resulted in unfathomable devastation and death. This said, we are happy to say that our chilren are unharmed, but shaken up. Our biggest issue is that we are without supplies or food. The town of Jacmel is in very bad condition and getting worst every day without medical help, any food or supplies. No RedCross or US Aid has reached us. We are making efforts to bring in our own chartered airplanes and supplies from Miami and Dominican Republic. We have raised money, but need more. Everything helps, thank you for those that have given so generously.
